STYLUS + BASIS + SUBMERGE | Wanted to drop a thank you to everyone - TopicsExpress

STYLUS + BASIS + SUBMERGE | Wanted to drop a thank you to everyone who came out to support our two Stylus shows we did this weekend. We hosted at Basis, as a headliner - SHADED - who showed us why he is getting so much support in the global techno scene. His set was all original material, in bits and pieces, arranged on the fly - and he utterly rocked it for 2.5+ hours. Im impressed by LA talent and Skyler Taugher is destined to make waves. Im glad we could also come full circle together as he credits Compression as the place (at the King King) where he was first immersed in techno many years back. Its cool to see him progress and become some a prolific producer and amazing live techno performer. Class act too - Thanks Sklyer - have a good one in Europe for the next several months. Also - Jia Wang played a solid opening set and Im reminded that the skillset of a DJ is how well they know how to warm up a room and set the mood proper. Jia did Basis a proper deep tech opening set that reveals to my ears that he is deserving of the gigs and shows hes been doing around LA and beyond. We are glad we got a chance to work together - and I anticipate more collabs in the future, very soon! At our debut of Sub Merge at the Standard Hotel yesterday, we were honored to host Gene Farris from Chicago - whos currently working with Cajmere/Green Velvet on a host of music and is really pushing the house sound forward. We got a taste of his good natured vibes and dancefloor skills yesterday - and I have to say, we are going to do this again. Gene is a class act with positive energy to boot. House music has a friend in Gene. It was also my first time hearing Wally Callerio and Bret Wallace throw down sets in full - and it was just simply great. To tell you the truth, Im embarrassed at my own lack of awareness of our SoCal talent (as I tend to hole up in my own world too often) and this weekend revealed that our cup overfloweth here in the Southland. If you get a chance to support either of these guys - please do so - I cant recommend their dance floor vibes strong enough! Im not used to living dance music culture as a lifestyle anymore - and this weekend proved why its best to live a healthy lifestyle in order to stay up late, be happy, and be intense with the music and people around you. I was tired as hell last night - so much so, that when I got home I fell on my couch, all lights left on, and proceeded to sleep in my clothes all night. Ha ha. #oldmanproblems. But let me tell you, it was worth it. Basis and our mission statement with the club gives me purpose to sacrifice a bit to bring solid music, good vibes, no pretentiousness, no fakery, just pure dance floor. Thats what Jacob thee-o Ofilas and I are striving for with Stylus - being real, making it fun, and being only about the music. Everything else is just white noise - and immaterial. So, thank you again to our team (Yelva Mejia, Kevin Malburg, Rafael Xavier, David Moses, Funkworks Brad, Lucas Dodson, Joe Nutz, and gang) and all of you who get what we are trying to do with our events. You support does not go unnoticed - and we hope to see you very soon!
