Formed in a suburban Chicago basement in the early 1970s, Styx first came to Midwest regional attention with their hit single Lady. Starting when Tommy Shaw joined the band in 1975, Styx reeled off 4 consecutive multi platinum selling albums Crystal Ball, The Grand Illusion, Pieces Of Eight, and Cornerstone. In 1981, a Gallup Poll named Styx as Americas most popular rock band, and record sales, radio airplay and concert tour ticket sales backed up their status. Styx sold out New Yorks Madison Square Garden, Chicago Stadium, Reunion Arena in Dallas and The Forum in Los Angeles. In recent years, a new generation of Styx fans have joined with older Styx fans at concerts around the world. Styx has become a part of American pop culture, with their songs featured on tv shows including Friends, The Simpsons and Family Guy. In Adam Sandlers movie Big Daddy, Sandlers character declares that Styx is Americas Greatest Rock Band! The quirky Styx single Mister Roboto was featured in a car company commercial. Among Styxs many hit singles are Come Sail Away, The Grand Illusion, Babe, Too Much Time On My Hands, Fooling Yourself (Angry Young Man), Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Lorelei, Suite Madame Blue, and Snowblind. Head East was formed in the early 1970s in Saint Louis and Southern Illinois. Led by founding member / singer /songwriter / keyboard player Roger Boyd, their breakthrough album was Flat As A Pancake on A & M Records, and featured Never Been Any Reason. Since You Been Gone, Gettin Lucky and Love Me Tonight were also strong single releases for Head East. In December, Head East joined with Midwest rockers Styx, REO Speedwagon and Ted Nugent for a sold out Tornado Relief concert at US Cellular Arena in Bloomington, Illinois.
