SUB-JUNIOR FOOTBAL: Ernakulam boys wrest title Kochi: Hosts Ernakulam beat a fighting Palakkad in sudden death to clinch the state subjunior football title at St George HS, Muthalakadam, Thodupuzha on Friday. Both teams scored two goals each in regulation time. Ernakulam raced to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter of an hour with B Muneeshwaran and Varghese Kutty scoring a goal apiece in the 19th and 23rd minute respectively. Vipul reduced the margin for Palakkad in the 26th minute and the two teams went into lemon break with Ernakulam leading 2-1. Sixteen minutes into the second half, Yaseem Arshad found the equalizer for Palakkad. With both team failing to find the net in the remaining period of normal time, the match went into penalties and later sudden death. Ranganathan, Basil Joy, Muneeshwaran, Edwin Thomas and Josen Joseph found the net for Ernakulam while Varghese Kutty slammed the ball wide. For Palakkad, Glister C Gracious, Amen M Rasheed, Vipul, Nikhilesh found the net while kicks from Akhil K and Mohammad Feroz went a begging.
