SUFFOLK FIRE & RESCUE RESPONDS TO FUEL SPILL SUFFOLK, Virginia (July 11, 2013) – Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a hazardous fuel spill Wednesday afternoon at 3:42 p.m. It was initially believed that the spill involved several hundred gallons. Dispatchers received the call advising that a tractor trailer traveling eastbound in the 7400 block of S. Quay Road in the Holland area struck an unknown object in the road, rupturing its fuel tank. Once on scene, firefighters found that approximately 25 to 30 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the side of the road. A portion of the roadway was briefly closed and the fuel spill was contained by 4:29 p.m. Battalion 1, Engine 7, Engine 8, Rescue 1, Tanker 7, Medic 7 and Hazmat 1 responded to the incident. There were no injuries.
