SUICIDE ..... Misery ... Hopelessness … Despair I watched a video of a man throwing himself from a tall building to his death.... check my page at Grace Gie Makani-Tarimo... This scene really troubled me as a Christian, Counselor and as a human being. As a Christian: I thought, did he know God? Did he have someone from his faith that he could talk to? Did anyone from his church/mosque know / noticed that he was depressed? What did they do about it? TALKING FROM A CHIRSTIAN POINT OF VIEW – ARE WE OPEN ENOUGH FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW THEY ARE WELCOME TO SEEK HELP FROM US? DO WE HAVE CONDUCIVE ENVIRONMENT [at church] THAT WOULD ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO COME FOR HELP? DO WE KEEP PEOPLES PROBLEM TO OURSELVES OR SHARE WITH OTHER PASTORS/SPOUSES/CELL MEMBERS IN THE NAME OF PRAYING FOR THE VICTIMS? As a Counselor: I thought, did he consult someone for advice? Was it a financial, medical, spiritual, emotional help that he needed but failed to receive? DO WE HAVE COUNSELING CENTRES IN TANZANIA? WHERE DO PEOPLE GO WHEN THEY NEED COUNSELING? DO PEOPLE KNOW THERE ARE A FEW PLACES THEY CAN GO TO WHERE THEIR ISSUES CAN BE DISCUSSED/RESOLVED CONFIDENTIALLY? CHURCH/MOSQUE/HOSPITALS/ USTAWI WA JAMII? As a human being: I thought, this is very sad not just for him, but for the family he left behind. Was he a father? What will happen to his children and wife? He must have weighed everything and didn’t see light at the end of the tunnel.... hopelessness I was just thinking about his last moments before his demise, he must have known what he was going to do that morning when he was smartly dressed, he must have talked to the people around him just a few minutes before committing suicide, because the fact that someone took a video of it, it means they must have tried talking him out of it. But in the end, he must felt hopelessness and despair and the only solution was to end his life. THIS CHALLENGES ME MORE AS A CHRISTIAN & A COUNSELOR, ON MY ROLE/ PURPOSE ON THIS EARTH. WHAT SOLUTION AM I HERE TO GIVE TO THE WORLD? WHY DID GOD CREATE ME? LET ME GIVE YOU A BRIEF STORY OF MY LIFE…. I remember in 2004 Isaac Mallonga came to our church [DPC] for some ladies’ teaching. After his session, he made an altar call; I think we were to be prayed for in our leadership positions [I was a leader of a ladies’ group at the time]. So I went forward together with a few other ladies and we were individually prayed for. When he reached me, he said he could see God has given me a compassionate heart, I’ll be healing people, and I’ll be taking people’s pains and problems as my own. I thought now I’ll be casting out demons from people and this scared/freaked me out a lot. At the time I was very new in my salvation [just a year old], and my spiritual maturity level was still very low. But this was the beginning of my journey, because the following year [2005] something happened in my life which made me realize God wants me to help people emotionally, confirming what Isaac had said the previous year. My calling was to unleash peoples full potential and this led me to start studying counseling classes and the rest is history. So when I hear someone is/has undergone through any kind of pain, it troubles and pains me a lot. I feel I need to help in one-way or another and also see where/how I can end it. Many times my friends have told me, you cant resolve the world’s problem, but I believe this is what God has called me to do – not to solve all problems, but where my small capacity can be useful. BUT WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT SUICIDE? - To Be Continued …
