SUNDAY 23rd NOVEMBER 2014 NEWS • Some suspended PF Central Committee members have threatened to move a motion to expel Acting PF President Guy Scott from his position. Speaking in an interview with Mano News last evening, PF Member of Central Committee In charge of Community Development and Health Jean Kapata charged that Dr Scot will be expelled as party acting president today saying he has committed another offence by suspending the 16 members of the Central Committee. Ms Kapata said Guy Scot should be level headed and not to be swayed by what she termed as the cartel. And commenting on the same, Freedom Sikazwe who is also a member of the Central Committee charged that Acting PF President Guy Scott has no powers to expel anyone as he is merely acting. Mr Sikazwe the Northern Province said if not checked, Scott will destroy the party. ******************************************** • Yesterday, acting PF President Guy Scott suspended sixteen members of the PF Central Committee with immediate effect for defying his orders not to hold the meeting. Announcing the development at his office, Dr. Scott said the move is in accordance with powers vested in him under Article 61 of the party constitution. Dr. Scott has wondered why the Central Committee had to go ahead to hold a meeting at Blue Nile Lodge this morning without his permission. He maintained that the Central Committee meeting expected to be held today at State House at 14:00 hours will go ahead as planned. The members of the Central Committee that Dr. Scott has suspended include; Inonge Wina, Benson Chali, Rasford Mwale, Fabian Chiposo, John Chipanga, Malozo Shichone, Willy Nsanda, James Kapyanga, Obvious Chisala, Steven Kampyongo, Jean Kapata, Mwenya Musenga, Dr. Joseph Katema and Lazarous Chisanga. ******************************************** • Earlier in the day, the PF Central Committee resolved that the issue regarding the Party Presidency and presidential candidate will be resolved at the General conference. In a Press Conference held at Blue Nile Lodge , the Central Committee stated that powers to organize a General Conference remained a preserve of the organ. The Committee also resolved to attend a meeting called by Acting Secretary General, Bridget Atanga which will be held at State House today. ******************************************** • A civic leader in Mungwi District has pleaded with government to quicken the process of paying farmers for the maize supplied to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA). MMD-Kabisha ward councilor Ernest Kangwa made the appeal in a telephone interview from Mungwi yesterday. Mr Kangwa said the PF Government should not only concentrate jostling for presidency at the expense of paying farmers their due for maize supplied to FRA. ******************************************** • Late President Michael Sata’s eldest son, Mulenga has besieged youths in the PF to guard against being used as tools of violence ahead of the forth-coming party general conference. Mr Sata, who is also vying for the PF presidency, cautioned young people against being used by older politicians with selfish ambitions. He appealed to youths to be focused and strive to build a better country for many years to come. The ruling PF is scheduled to hold a general conference to choose a party president to replace Late President Sata as well as to contest the 20 January 2015 presidential election. ******************************************** • The Zambia Center for Inter Party Dialogue (ZCID) has cautioned the PF not to make history by failing to finish their five year term of office. ZCID Executive Director Hollance Chilando told QFM News, that the PF should avoid doing things that may make their chances of returning the presidential seat slim. And Mr. Chilando said the wrangles in the ruling PF are no longer an internal problem but a national blow. He revealed that his organization approached the PF to help them resolve their wrangles peacefully but they declined to be helped. Mr. Chilando said there is no doubt that the ruling PF needs serious help and that all revenant organizations must stand up and help the party. He warned that if the ruling PF is not careful, there party will be destroyed in no time and that they will not have a party to fight for in the nearby future. ******************************************** • A Traditional leader in Mporokoso District has called for peace and unity in the country during the forthcoming presidential election. Chief Mumpolokoso of the Bemba speaking people said it is important that all Zambians are calm and uphold the peace and unity the country has enjoyed for the last 50 years. Chief Mumpolokoso added that it is important that political parties resolve their differences in a manner that will not interfere with the peace of the country. He stated that the infighting within the MMD and PF must be resolved by choosing a leader through democratic means. The traditional leader advised the two political parties to follow their party constitutions when choosing candidates for their political parties. ******************************************** • And a Patriotic Front (PF) official in Kaputa district has urged party members to show loyalty to the party and not individuals. Dickson Chomba said putting the interest of the party first will help the PF remain strong even after members preferred candidates fail to make it for the party presidency. Mr. Chomba observed that the high numbers of people aspiring for the PF top job shows diversity of the party stating that members should therefore not show loyalty to individuals as this may divide the party. He said members should be willing to support any presidential candidate that the party will adopt to stand for the January 20 presidential election. Mr. Chomba added that all losing candidates should also be willing to support the person that will be adopted by the party. Meanwhile, Mr. Chomba said the party in the district is ready for the election that has been set for January 20. ******************************************** • Residents of Mungwi’s Chipako scheme farm block are reported to have lived for 42 years without having access to tap water. David Mwamba disclosed the development in in a walk-in interview with Mano News today. Mr Mwamba said has since appealed to government to intervene in the matter saying the situation has been pathetic. ******************************************** IN FOREIGN NEWS • The deadly Ebola outbreak can be ended by the middle of next year if the world speeds up its response. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon warned that although the rate of new cases was slowing in parts of West Africa, Mali where six people have died was now of deep concern. And the head of the UN Ebola mission, Anthony Banbury, said the world was far away from beating the virus. Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia have been worst hit by the Ebola outbreak. More than 5,400 people have died in those three countries, along with a handful of others in Nigeria, Mali, Spain and the US. • A senior adviser to President Uhuru Kenyatta, Abdikadir Mohammed has told the BBC that the slaughter of 28 people on a bus in Kenya is a bid to start a religious war. Mr Mohammed called on Kenyans of all faiths and creeds to stand together against the heinous crimes. At dawn on Saturday, al-Shabab gunmen attacked the bus in northern Kenya, shooting dead non-Muslim passengers. The Somalia-based Islamist group has carried out numerous attacks across Kenya since 2011. And survivor Ahmed Mahat told the BBC how the bus attack took place saying gunmen separated out non-Muslims by asking passengers to read from the Koran. Those who failed were then shot in the head. Kenyas Red Cross confirmed that 28 of the 60 passengers on the bus were killed, 19 men and nine women. ********************ENDS*********************
