SUNDAY, July 20: 6 Pentecost Matthew 13:29. In gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. One of our favorite indoor sports is passing judgment on others. Few things are more satisfying than announcing someone is going to hell for one reason or another. We do it to individuals, denominations, religions, and, on a good day, entire cultures. One would think that God, if not those we condemn, would be grateful for our efforts, but, alas, today’s reading imposes itself.
