SUNDAY SERMON FROM THE IRREVEREND: I’m going to start a church. It’s going to be called The Facebook Chapel of What’s Been Happening Weekly. I already have 482 members, but like most churches, only about a quarter of the people show up (comment) on any given Sunday. It will not necessarily be based on Biblical teaching, but God will be present in some form every Sunday. You can get dressed up if you want to, but most members would probably prefer to see you in your jammies. There will be lessons of life for you to learn. You will be expected to provide some sort of stipend to the church authority (me), and you must do so regularly. The address is in the phone book. Lastly, and most importantly, you must give up all other church ties, just in case they haven’t given up on you already. I say that because I claim to be a Presbyterian, but because I either don’t go often enough or I have given enough, they don’t claim me. Do you know why I can start this church? Let me tell you we celebrate that privilege this coming Thursday. “We The People” can do just about anything we want to do, because it’s guaranteed in our Declaration of Independence and resulting Constitution. That includes the freedom to worship (and belong to) anything we want to worship. It means not only freedom of religion, but freedom from religion. Take just a minute sometime Thursday to remember how lucky you were to be born American. So lucky that you can join my church……..
