SUPER DUPER LONG POST ALERT (But also super duper important, so - TopicsExpress

SUPER DUPER LONG POST ALERT (But also super duper important, so please read!) Last weeks meeting was all about brainstorming. We covered a lot of different topics which will be separated below. Im really proud of the ideas we came up with! Please contribute any of your own ideas in the comments! Firstly, we talked about GETTING MORE MEMBERS Attendance has been a huge issue for us so far, and though Im doing what I can to adjust meeting times/days to accommodate the majority of peoples schedules, it will also help to have more people. Here are the ideas we came up with to bring in new members: -Reaching out to the RCTC Design Club to create flyers and posters for us. (There are also people who may be interested in joining!) -These flyers could be distributed: Around certain RCTC boards, Jans Costumes, at MN conventions, and at various art stores. -We also discussed reaching out to: Otherwise Actors, Mantorville Theatre, Civic Theatre, Barnes and Noble, and basic Word-of-Mouth. -Theres also a possibility of advertising at the Mall (if were careful), Thursdays on First, and movie/video game releases. -Down the road, we liked the ideas of marching in various town parades in the summer, and organizing a RCG- run event at local conventions! I cant stress how important it is to the success of this guild that we get more active members. I hope to have doubled our numbers by summer! The next topic we went over was FUTURE GUILD MEETINGS As far as future projects go, we plan to continue the sewing projects, such as learning how to sew gloves, hats, skirts, and more. (This week, were making drawstring bags!) I want to give a big thank you to Elizabeth for her continued help with these projects! We will also go over Wig styling, making cosplay armor, incorporating lights in your cosplay, crossplaying, dying fabric, and cosplaying on a budget. Periodically, we will also feature something called crash course lessons. These will be lessons where someone else gives a crash course in various pop culture topics. I know that for some of you, youre an expert in anime, but know very little about most video games. Or youre a cult classic fanatic, but have only heard of Naruto in terms of anime. In order for people to learn about different things, we will let someone else host the meeting for the week and tell us all there is to know about their chosen topic! We also discussed future GUILD OUTREACH PROJECTS As earlier mentioned, I think it would be great if we could march in festival parades. We would need more members, and ones with completed costumes to be able to do this, I also think it will massively help our guild to establish more representation at local cons (Detour, Animini, CONvergence, Fusion, etc) We will also gain more notoriety in Rochester if we can successfully organize both fundraiser and charity events. (NO, Sean, no carwashes!) We can discuss this more after we obtain more members. I do have a connection to a successful cosplayer that does a lot of charity work, and can give us some tips on how to organize events. Over the summer, I would LOVE to organize a guild photoshoot! I know we have a few aspiring photographers and Id love to give them a chance to show their work! For those modeling for the photos, its a HUGE confidence boost, trust me!! :) After the success of the Halloween party, I think it would be awesome to host more social events for guild members to get to know each other more! Some ideas were to go out to Jenpachi or Osaka for dinner, going out to a movie, or hosting another type of party over the summer while all you college kids are back home! :P The last thing we went over- and possibly the most important, was establishing more ONLINE ACTIVITY. What I first brought up was getting more activity going on the FB page here. One idea was to have a question of the week that people can answer. It could be things like favorite anime or favorite cosplay or something super creative! Itll be a great chance for people to get to know each other more. I also brought up making a Youtube page. We could post various cosplay tutorials, vlogs from the cons we go to, or more. Then the idea was brought up to LIVESTREAM our meetings! I know its a lot to ask to try to attend meetings every week and I know things come up sometimes. By Livestreaming the meetings, people at home can still tune in and contribute via the comment section. Then the video would save and be archived afterwards for people to watch on their own time! We already have a plan to set up a camera on my laptop. What I would like to know is which livestream site will work the best for this? Im so excited to start implementing this! :D As I mentioned earlier, PLEASE give any feedback or additional ideas that you may have. This is OUR guild and everyones opinion is welcome. Also, I cant wait to help people make drawstring bags at tonights meeting! See you at 6! -Sarah
