SUTHERLAND SHIRE - School cleaner - Slave Kolevski - spends the night in jail after being charged for allegedly assaulting three children - Barry OFarrell tells parents dont be spooked. A Sutherland Shire cleaner will has spent the night behind bars after allegedly indecently assaulting three children at a primary school over a six-month period. The 60-year-old man of Kogarah, was refused bail at Sutherland Local Court after being arrested by Child Abuse Squad detectives on six charges of indecently assaulting a persons under 16 years of age. He was accused of assaulting a 10-year-old boy and two 11-year-old boys on the school grounds south of Sydney between April and October. The man allegedly slapped the boys on the bottom numerous times, slapped one boy on the thigh and swiped his hand over another boys penis, according to the court documents. The last, and most serious, alleged attack occurred on Monday when an 11-year-old was touched on the penis, the court heard. A complaint was made to police and the accused was stood down by the school. But he allegedly returned to the school on Tuesday and Wednesday after being told not return and watched one of his alleged victims walk to school, the court documents say. He also was allegedly seen outside the homes of one of the alleged victims, the police said. The man has denied the charges. Premier Barry OFarrell said parents shouldnt be spooked by the alleged assault of the young students. We have a million kids in schools across NSW - this is one regrettable incident, he said. But concerned parents at the public primary school, which cannot be named for legal reasons, told The Daily Telegraph they were shocked. Im absolutely horrified. Ill see if there is any information from the school to the parents because we should have been notified, one parent said. Another parent said she was good the cleaner had been charged. Its frightening, Ive got to speak to my son about it tonight. I dont know what to do. Im a bit shocked, the mother said. The court heard the Australian citizen, who migrated from Macedonia in 2001, had strong ties to his community and had worked as a cleaner with his wife for more than a decade. Magistrate Peter Budgen denied the father-of-two bail, saying his alleged victims were of tender years. His legal aid lawyer Greg Melrose said his client did not know the alleged victims names or where they lived, and if he was spotted near one of their homes it was a coincidence because he could not park near the school. Mr Melrose also said the man told police he had not entered school grounds after he was stood down, just the office, and only did so to try to talk to the principal about why he had been sacked. He said his client denied the allegations and had a clean criminal record. The Department of Education was liaising with parents and would provide counselling, a spokesman said. The spokesman refused to say whether he was contracted to clean at other schools. The matter was adjourned to November 14. Credit: Herald Sun Journalist: Ben Mclellan
