SW GAMES Great fun was the order of the weekend in Hamilton for the SW Games. Kelly Gale from Naracoorte put in a team of women who played on Saturday and a team of men who played both Saturday and Sunday. Most opted to stay for the whole weekend and enjoyed great sportsmanship and friendship. The women had 3 on the bench which were rotated by Carlee O’Bryan (who was resting her foot due to a Masters experience). Stef and Tori were the youngest in the team, and had the fittest legs and got better after each game. Emma was welcomed to the team for the first time and had fun as well as Jayne and Brigitta. A majority of the players were from the last season with a few others coming along for the ride. Anne Freeman scored the 2 goals in the last game, giving the team a 2-1 win for that game, so the ladies definitely finished on a high. The ladies team was sponsored by Riddoch Insurance Services SA. After presentations to the women, the men were soon put through their paces with some very fast and swift action by the opposition. James Gale lead the team sporting brand new black and orange shirts which were sponsored by Daniel Kitto (the coach) on behalf of Limestone Coast Motor Cycles and matching orange socks. Father and son team, James and Peter did some great work, particularly in the last game, wherein James pushed a ball towards Peter, then he smacked is sideways into the goal, which was touched by Colin the fill-in (who the team were grateful for). The Naracoorte men had the best support crew on the sidelines. The games of hockey were great to watch. The best thing about these hockey carnivals, is that players from other teams come together. The experienced players offer guidance to the younger ones, and the mix of the ages and experience is great. A few may be limping for a couple of days, but participation in this event was fun. Thanks to those that took on umpiring and the occasional coffee run. Well done to the Gales for organising the event and to Daniel Kitto for the tent. The South West Games is held in early November every year rotating between Warrnambool, Portland and Hamilton. Hockey is not the only sport played. This year the Games included around 70 sports and it is a wonderful event to be apart of. If you would like to participate or be involved you can visit southwestgames.au for information. Looking forward to 2015 in Portland. A gift of chocolates was handed to Carlee and Daniel, as well as a little package for the Great Gales. Thanks guys.
