SYNOPSIS: ‘Mardaani’ is a story of Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukerji). She is a cop working for Mumbai crime branch. She has an adopted daughter, who gets kidnapped from her shelter home by a gang involved in women trafficking. Shivani starts doing investigation to find the girl and arrests few people, but fails to reach to the gang due to their hidden location and strong connections. So how will Shivani track their locations? What she did to get her adopted daughter back? This is the rest of the story. STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES: The story of the film written by Gopi Puthran is not at all fresh. We have been watching movies based on the same concept since 1980’s. It is surprising whether how Aditya Chopra approved such a subject. Writers have not worked to develop bonding among the characters. Audiences don’t get attached to even main protagonist. The screenplay is very routine. There is not a single scene which holds the audiences. Dialogues are poor and in fact actors couldn’t deliver the dialogues as per their characters. PERFORMANCES: Rani Mukerji is known to be one of the best actresses we have around, but she disappoints badly. She doesn’t look like a cop. Complete failure as an actress. Other casts are new and doesn’t impress. DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING: We can remember Pradeep Sarkar only for his work in ‘Parineeta’. His last movie ‘Lafangey Parindey’ had disappointed and same is going to happen to happen with ‘Mardaani’. He even failed to cast proper artist. It’s a complete mis-cast. Even Rani Mukerji as Shivani doesn’t fit the bill. It’s a director’s job to take out good work from the artist, but it doesn’t seem to work here. Very ordinary execution of the scenes and poor direction. ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC: Action in the film is fine and simple. There is no scope of music in the film and Karthik Raja’s background score is average. CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:Locations are good and production value of the film is mediocre.
