Sabbath Message for June 8 from Dr. Hughon W. James, President of St. Kitts District 1 Elders’ Council: My dear fellow believers in Christ, in our discussions and debates on the various issues of life, it seems inevitable that those who can present the most persuasive arguments would emerge as winners regardless of the views that they express. Indeed, the power of persuasion, not necessarily the presentation of truthful evidence, is often seen as the key to success in debates. For instance, religious authorities persuaded the multitudes that they should have Barabbas released and Jesus crucified. Church leaders persuasively turned the crowds against Paul and had him stoned almost to death. Paul himself had previously been deadly in his persuasion against devoted Christians before he switched sides and was instrumental in persuading many to follow Christ. When confronted with biblical revelation of God’s requirements and His blessed will for our lives, do we bow in submission to Holy Spirit persuasion, or are we resistant and rebellious, thus putting at risk the guarantee of our eternal salvation? There may be individuals who, like King Agrippa, are saying: “you almost persuade me to become a Christian” (Acts 27:20). By the grace of God, may each of us come to be fully persuaded that He is “able to keep that which we have committed unto Him” (2 Tim. 1:12) and that nothing will be allowed “to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:37-39). Be persuaded and persuasive in Christ! Will you?
