Sac Fungus reached the halfway point in their first season this Evening with a 14-2 Win at Baltimore. SF (40-41) has won 5 of their Last 6 to hang just 1 GB 1st Place New York in NL East. NY has Won 4 in a row. 3rd Place Seattle Lost, but is 8-2 in their Last 10 and are themselves just 2 GB NY. Sac Fungus placed 3 Players on the NL All-Star team, including 2 Starters. The Starters are: 1B Norm Cash - .353-10 HR-54 RBI-34 R CF Andy Van Slyke - .335-7 HR-50 RBI-68 R-5 SB also named: Closer Ricky Bottalico - 3-0, 4.39 ERA, 15 Saves in 19 Opportunities. Cash is the biggest, pleasant surprise. This is 1969 Norm Cash, but his stats look a lot like his splendid 1961 season. In addition, Cash has a 1.000 Fielding Pct., although he has been noted with 6 "poor plays" in the field. Van Slyke has been the team Leader all season. As the #3 Batter, that was the design. His performance is less surprising, but equally gratifying. Van Slyke has 3 Errors, but also has 8 "good plays" in the First Half of the season.
