Sachin nominated for Bharat Ratna. Nothing more could be gladdening. He is truly an icon that deserved the highest civilian award of our country. In his farewell match, he displayed maturity and compose that can be seen rarely. His speech towards the end of his 200th Tet Match signified grace, humbleness and magnanimity towards his family, his colleagues and indeed all his countless fans and supporters. Any one else would have been awed and swayed in such a moment, but not Sachin. The Government took the right initiative in nominating him for the Bharat Ratna. However, was there a streak of a political move in the Governments announcement ? Just days after two Congressmen asked Lata Mangeshkar to return the Bharat Ratna only because she had preferred Narendra Modi as the future Prime Minister of India, can that party be trusted of true intentions in conferring the Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar ? What if, at a later date, Sachin too is seen sharing a dias with Narendra Modi or praises the Gujarat Chief Minister (or the future PM) of doing great service to the people of India ? Can the Congress Party remain true to its announcement of nominating Sachin Tendulkar for the Bharat Ratna even in such an eventuality ? Hypothetical question maybe, but the episode with Lata Mangeshkar prods us to re-think the move of the Congress Party with sceptism. Sachin, you do deserve the Bharat Ratna, for you have no peers - on the field and off it. We wish you a very great future away from the hoglight of a Cricket Match. In whatever you choose to do, you will not only shine but also become an example for the future generation.
