Sack Eddie Annan Now! –Korle Bu Consultants Date published: July 24, 2014 By Mohammed Awal (awalm19@gmail) THE CONSULTANTS and Specialists Forum of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has called for the immediate dismissal of the Board Chairman, Mr. Eddie Annan and the Acting Chief Administrator, Reverend Okpoti Botchway to save the health Institution from collapse.In a letter to President Mahama and copied to various institutions in the country, the consultants, led by their Chairman, Professor Kobinah Nyekyer, threatened that any attempt to sweep theirconcerns beneath the carpet would be metwith ferocious opposition. “If these demands are not met, we will be forced to reconsider our position and take strong action to press home our case in the interest of patients.”No ConfidenceThe Forum said in the letter that they had “no confidence” in the current Chairman, the board of directors and the Acting Chief Administrator, Reverend Okpoti Botchway. They called for their immediate replacement with persons whose primary resolve was to establish a well run Hospitalthat would provide “excellent care for patients, good facilities for clients and fair rewards for all staff and management.”Also, they demanded for the appointment of a substantive Chief Administrator for the Hospital within three months of the receipt of this letter complaining that the KBTH had been without a substantive ChiefAdministrator, since Professor Nii Otu Nartey retired in May, 2013.Seamless Succession PlanThe Forum tasked the Board of the Hospital in consultation with the Minister of health, to ensure that future succession was better executed such that no gaps occur at the helm of affairs. Also, they called for the immediate amendment of the Act 525 (Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996) to ensure that the need for the appointment of an interim Chief Administrator of the Hospital is reduced to the minimum.Financial AutonomyThey also called for the grant of the main departments of KBTH greater financial autonomy to enable them effectively discharge their duties. “The current distribution of generated income between the central administration and Sub-BMCs isunacceptable. We strongly request an immediate thorough evaluation and discussion to rectify this anomaly.“The current centralization of the procurement process is obstructive and partly responsible for the current poor state of the Hospital,” added the Forum. Moving forward, the Forum pleaded for greater transparency and accountability in all financial transactions the KBTH would be engaged in.
