Sacking ECG-Boss is Not the Solution to The Energy/Power Crisis The solution to Ghanas energy/power problem is not about sacking William Hutton-Mensah, but Mahama should start implementing the policies and to do the right thing to solve the energy crisis. They know very well what must be done, but for some reasons, things are not being done. The power crisis is having severe financial and economic impact on the country and it should be the presidents number one priority. A country cant progress economically if there is no consistent delivery of power/energy. Let us look at William Hutton-Mensah qualifications as ECG boss. Mr William Hutton-Mensah was appointed Ag. Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana in February 03, 2012 following the inauguration of the Board of Directors of the company. QUALIFICATIONS * Prior to his appointment, Mr Hutton-Mensah was a Director in charge of Network Projects of the company. --- what company is this and what were his accomplishments? * He is an accomplished manager with over twelve (12) years excellent track record --- which company did he manage for the past 12 years? * He has had about twenty seven (27) years profound experience in Electrical Engineering in the Energy Sector. --- where did work as an Electrical Engineer? * Mr Hutton-Mensah has held various portfolios in the Electricity Company of Ghana including, Regional General Manager in Volta, Accra East and Ashanti regions. - what did he accomplish when he was serving as regional manager * He was also the regional engineer, projects engineer and maintenance engineer in Tema and Western regions -- hmm, and what are his accomplishments? DEGREES * Mr Hutton-Mensah holds an Executive Masters Degree in Business Administration from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) - when did he obtain this degree? *and Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) --- when did he obtain this degree? OTHER OVERSEAS EXPERIENCE * He has undertaken various overseas training in management of electric power systems (Sweden), electric power development planning (Japan), distribution system technology and practice (Ireland) and power systems and distribution management (India) among others. --- overseas training? For his oversea training, he travelled to four countries. The question is what did he learn? I bet you, he traveled to all these places using our tax payers money, but what does he have to show off. SUMMARY People are elected into office or positions through political patronage. They dont have the background, experience and skills sets to manage the affairs of our institutions, but we continue to appoint them and we will continue to find ourselves in a shit hole!. We must establish a strong vetting process, where people appointed by the president to lead a national strategic asset, must go through rigorous interview and vetting process to determine whether they are qualified for the position. We have a current system where members of parliament, have abandoned their responsibilities and allowed Mahama to appoint any person that he sees fit. People, that are clueless, visionless, and strategy-less. We will continue to sink deeper into a pitch as a country, when we continue to appoint or elect inexperience people who do not have direct background and experience to manage state institutions.
