Sad Day For Rangers Posted on August 5, 2013 by billmcmurdo If Rangers fans needed any further proof of both Keith jackson’s and the Daily Record’s campaign to cause division and mayhem at Ibrox, they only need read Karaoke Keith’s keech in the paper this morning. Wacko’s desperate attempt to bring further turmoil to Rangers by his urging Walter Smith to “do walking away” will forever be imprinted on the memory of bluenoses now. Many Gers fans trust in Walter and Karaoke’s imploring of Walter to leave the club will not sit well with them. Rangers need stability right now and Walter is the man for it. That said, if Walter is backing the Concert Party seeking to gain control of the club, then it is the honourable thing for him to do. I oppose this Party’s attempt to usurp the boardroom which places me on the opposite side from Walter – not a comfortable place to be, I have to say. But nobody can doubt that Walter Smith is a Rangers legend. For me, his greatest achievement was not the 9 league titles in a row but the 3 in a row he won on his return. To do this he had to overturn Celtic’s dominance and beat the best Celtic manager since Jock Stein. Despite intense pressure Walter pulled it off and passed a legacy on to Ally McCoist. Speculation is mounting over whether or not Coisty will follow his old mentor out the door. That is up to Super but I hope that he and Walter don’t pee in the pond once they leave by attacking the present regime. Rangers fans must rally round and support the club and, most important of all, the team. In my time as a bluenose I have seen legends come and go – and not always in the nicest way. Walter and Ally would be the first to say that no-one is bigger than the club. Many heroes have left Ibrox nursing hurts and grievances – Sir Alex Ferguson being a classic example. Walter will be angry and frustrated but he himself has said the boardroom is not a natural habitat for him. It is clear that he and Charles Green don’t see eye to eye. That is sad but it is life and happens in football all the time. Sometimes differences can be put aside, other times people can’t do that. C’est la vie. The public spat between Ally McCoist and Charles Green has embarrassed the club but it has to be said that the interview Charles Green gave to The Sun included a lot of praise for the manager, which has been conveniently ignored. Super Ally further enhanced his own legend status last year by his “We don’t do walking away” line. It galvanised the Rangers support at a critical time and became a slogan that carried everyone through grim times. It now looks as if Walter Smith is going to walk away and Super Ally may actually join him. Few would blame them in light of current events – not grudge them best wishes. But one thing is for sure. The vast army of bluenoses will be there to cheer the Gers wherever and whenever they play
