Sad but true...and we see and do things such as this daily. Last week I had something similar happen. I was discharged from the VA Hospital and 52 miles from home. All I had to wear were the work clothes I went there in. Old ragged jeans...faded T shirt...worn out shoes etc. As I headed down the road walking and carrying my big Camouflage Duffle Bag waiting for my Lil Sister to meet me.. EVERY car that drove by either sneered at me..or shook their heads in disgust. I served in the Military 21 years!!..and now I was being judged by folks that knew NOTHING of me. Beneath the ragged work clothes was a loving..caring...devoted and hard working man. Yet I got MANY sneers.. a few even honked and flipped me the finger. 21.5 miles into my walk.. an incredible twist of fate occurred. A white SUV pulled over and the driver said.."Hey I should know you right?..you look damn familiar" I looked up and said.."Yes Denny..you should know me..I am your step brother Glenn" We had not seen each other in over 15 years..so we both had aged a bit and looked little different.He gave me a ride the rest of the way as we caught up on the time missed.Not seen each other in 15 years..and 21.5 miles into my 52 mile trek we cross paths. INCREDIBLE!!..and to this day I am still in shock...wondering how fate rescued me from a long journey in 90 degree weather....and why I was judged by passing cars. Had I been wearing my Dress Slacks..Dress Shoes and nice Button Down shirt.. I would have been offered many rides I am sure.
