Sad news from Dave Solomon HERMAN HAUGE To all my Facebook friends who knew Herman Hauge,I bring you the sad news that Herman died in the early hours of this morning.Herman had been involved playing alto sax in the various groups John Stevens and Trevor Watts organised in the late 60s and 70s and he and I frequently played together in a group called Otherways and as a duo.A gentle lyrical player who reminded me stylistically of John Tchicai,the only record of his work as far as I know is on Life Amid the Artifacts;Otherways and Free Space which is on Emanem 5014 (it had some pretty positive reviews).Herman stopped being involved in the improv scene and suffered from poor health for years finally succumbing to a brain tumour.The last time we played together was a reunion gig of a soul band wed played in during the 70s called Expensive that took place three or four years ago.Whenever I listen to Paul Bley and Bill Evans I think of him as hed play a lot of their stuff when I went round to his place.Ill post funeral details as soon as I get them for anyone whod like to go.
