Sad news to hear another rocker has passed. Jimi Jamison, former lead singer of the band Survivor, died last evening at the age of 63. So far no details as to how he passed have been released. Born in rural Mississippi, Jamison moved with his mother to Memphis, Tennessee, the day after his birth, and he considered himself a Memphis native. In addition to honing his vocal abilities in his teens, Jamison taught himself how to play guitar and piano. By middle school, he was playing in a band. Jimi Jamison became Survivors lead vocalist in 1984, replacing original front man Dave Bickler when he left the band. Jamison had previously been in the bands Target and Cobra (both of whos albums I also own), before joining Survivor for their fifth album Vital Signs, one of the groups most popular outings. The album reached #16 on the Billboard Album charts, was certified platinum for sales, and contained the hit singles I Cant Hold Back, High on You, The Search Is Over and First Night. He stayed with the band for two more albums - When Seconds Count (1986) and Too Hot Too Sleep (1988) - until embarking on a solo career in 1989. He reunited with them again in 2006 for the album Reach, and again in 2011 to tour. Jamison released 6 solo albums between 1991 and 2012, and was also the voice and co-writer of the theme song for Baywatch. rollingstone/music/news/jimi-jamison-survivor-lead-singer-dead-at-63-20140901
