Sad news today at the loss of Jack Bruce. When I first started playing bass Bruce, John Paul Jones and Chris Squire were my primary inspirations. Over time, what I really grew to appreciate about Bruce was how he led a life in music after Cream. He could have coasted as a rock icon, but instead pursued a number of challenging projects with Tony Williams, Carla Bley, Michael Mantler, Kip Hanrahan and others. Just a few years ago, he was still recording and touring with Spectrum Road, I regret that I didnt catch them when they came to the NW. What a life, and what a catalog of amazing material he leaves us.
