Sad news today with the announcement that James Brady has died. Mr. Brady spent the last years of his life advocating for an end to the rampant gun violence that continues to threaten the domestic tranquility of US citizens. As I see it, the only good thing Acting-president Reagan ever did for this country was to get shot along with James Brady. That event led to a significant--and effective--public outcry against gun violence. While this public health epidemic continues long after James was shot, and is likely to continue even after his death today, his efforts along with his wife and an amazing staff at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence are notable in making the US a better place to live.
