Sad, skinny, boxer mix ,10 year old girl brought to the clinic yesterday with severely infected uterus and a estimated bill of $1000.00 from another vet to help her. This little dog has been sick for a long time and lacking the necessary care, we cautioned the owner repeatedly that she was a huge surgical risk but without it she would most certainly die. Sufficiently educated on the risks to this sweet old lady and lectured by me that this is why YOU SHOULD SPY YOUR FEMALE PETS EARLY, we went ahead. In recovery last night the extremely sick little lady, after I had closed the clinic, cleaned the rooms,prepared for surgeries today, and set up the surgical room (about 9:30 pm) ate 2 big bowls of soft canned dog food with her meds hidden in them. Pretty good for a dog the owner reported had not eaten in 2 weeks. She is still on the hold over and watch list, still a great risk due to age and her health challenges. I will keep her, without charge, until I am sure and the vets give me the go ahead to send her home. She is pale, skinny, and weak but has beautiful eyes that look at you asking for help, how can I do anything else. She has suffered so much for so long due to lack of funds and education on the owners part I am hoping we have been able to offer her a turning point in her senior years for her health and condition.
