Saddened to see the neglect of the memorials to our National martyrs, we at the Aam Aadmi Party today are starting a series on LEGACIES OF OUR FORGOTTEN HEROES. Today being the 86th Death Anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai, fondly called Punjab Kesari, who was the ideological Guru of Sh. Bhagat Singh, Sh. Sukhdev and Sh. Rajguru. An eminent Educationist and Social Worker Lalaji had also been the President of the Congress. He died due to the severe beatings recieved during the protest against Simon Commission. His words that every blow to me will prove to be a nail in the coffin of the British Empire did prove to be prophetic. Successive Governments of Punjab have been reaping political benefits in his name but are his legacies being maintained?? Our team found them to be in a state of utter neglect. His home and its surroundings are in such a bad state that there was not even a bulb to illuminate the home. Our volunteers did clean up the area and installed lighting. But is this how the home which seeps in history of our Freedom movement be treated? We, the volunteers of Aam Aadmi Party demand that his home be converted into a proper museum detailing his life and sacrifice. We will continue to highlight the hypocrisy of our political parties who have been reaping the benefits of the struggles of Martyrs like Lala Lajpat Rai without giving them the due they rightly deserve.
