Sadly, this sharp-shinned hawk lost his life in pursuit of a starling into the visitor center window. The starling also died in the event. So that the hawks life is not in vain, I am posting three images that show the patterns sizes for future study and reference. This bird seems slightly larger than the normal sharp-shinned, but still less than a Coopers hawk. The wingspan itself matches the sharp-shinned as does the squared-off tail. Raptor specialists, feel free to weigh in on the discussion. (Almo, ID)
