The story takes place in Hertfordshire England in the 18TH century. “It is a truth universally” that every wealthy man is in great need of a wife (Austen1). However no one has yet to prove such a theory to be true. A very mysterious young wealthy man is visiting Netherfield he is traveling from the North of England. One of the village mother’s Mrs Bennet is very excited about the wealthy young man coming to Netherfield. Mrs Bennet thinks it will be a great idea to introduce her five vivacious daughters all at one time to this wealthy young man. Mr Bennet the father of these young ladies did not believe this was a good idea for his daughters to meet this wealthy man. However his wife Mrs Bennet desired for Mr Blingley to meet her little Lizzy. Netherfield Park was buzzing with the good news about this young man of great fortune named Mr Bingley. Mr Bennet was tired of hearing his wife talk about Mr Blingley just the thought of his name vexed Mr Bennet. Mr Blingley brought with him to the ball in Netherfield Park twelve ladies and seven gentlemen. The Bennet daughters were shocked by the number of ladies to accompany Mr Blingley to the Netherfield ball. Mrs Bennet could not wait to introduce her daughters at the Netherfield ball. If Mrs Bennet could just see one of her five daughters happily married and wealthy that was more than enough for her. Mr Blingley was a good looking gentleman with easy unaffected manners. His sisters were fine women who dressed very ostentatious. Mr Blingley brother in law was plain homey looking. However his friend Mr Darcy drew all the attention with his attracted handsome looks. Mr Darcy was not in the room five minutes before the chatter around the round was he earned ten thousand dollars a year. Mr Darcy came across as prideful which made the people at the Netherfield Park Ball see him as an unfavorable disrespectful person. To make matters worse, Mr Darcy made a very nasty remark. When Mr Blingley made a suggestion for him to ask one of the beautiful ladies for a dance. 4 “You are dancing with the only handsome girl in the room (Austen 7). Close Panel Mr Darcy had released a very powerful insult to the young ladies in the room. Because the woman he crowned the most beautiful in the room was in fact a senior citizen. However when Mr Darcy eyes look away from Elizabeth he says in a very rude cold and hasty voice she is unbearable to even look at let alone hold to dance with. Although Elizabeth was besmirched she did not hold any ill feeling. Mrs Bennet was very pleased by all the events that took place at the party. Especially to see her oldest daughter having a good time dancing all the night long this made Mrs Bennet very happy. Everyone had a great time except for Elizabeth Bennet she was miserable because of how taciturnly Mr Darcy treated her. However when she told her friends she pretended to not be affected by the rude behavior of Mr Darcy at the Netherfield ball. Elizabeth Bennet family was poor but not to the point they had to beg for food or shelter. Mr Bennet received a letter from a family member named Mr Collins. He wanted to come visit and make peace with Mr Bennet. In his letter he wrote of wanting to be a better man than his father who had passed away. Mr Collins wrote in his letter to Mr Bennet he wanted to offer an olive branch to him and Mrs Bennet. However, Mrs Bennet was well aware if her husband Mr Bennet died. The Bennet Estate would be left to Mr Collins and it is nothing she could do to prevent this from happening. Mr Collins came to Mr Bennet’s house with very foul intentions. Mr Collins came to his Uncle’s house to propose to his cousin Elizabeth and ask her to marry him! Eliazbeth was poor but she was not foul spirited she knew that marrying her cousin would be worse than being poor. However Mr Collins would not back down because she said no to his marriage proposal. He pointed out to Elizabeth if her father dies the Bennet estate would be left to him but if she married him he would give her father’s estate. Elizabeth could not believe her ears let alone what her eyes were looking at. Mr Collins refused to back down and instantaneously went to his backup plan. Mr Collins yelled for Mrs Bennet and asked her to tell Elizabeth to marry him. So that the Bennet family estate can remain with Mrs Bennet and her five daughters. Elizabeth remained strong in her answer of refusing to not accept Mr Collins offer to marry him. Mrs Bennet did the unthinkable she called her husband Mr Bennet and insisted that he make Elizabeth take Mr Collins hand in marriage. 5 Mr Bennet called Elizabeth in his library and said to her “an unhappy alternative is before you” (Austen 77).
