Safely in Rome after a stressful day. We arrived at Rome airport and the arranged shuttle was not there to meet us. The voucher said our driver will be waiting outside with your name. No. Other people gave us conflicting advice. Finally a kind man called their office and later a girl showed up and took us to another terminal. Then we waited again with other disgruntled people and eventually a man came and called our name. We walked another few hundred yards with luggage then set off. He drove like a maniac--phone to one ear, radio blaring in spite of us asking him to turn it off. When he finally parked outside our hotel I had to wrestle out my own bag and stepped backward into a deep hole in the road, banging my shin. The woman in the hotel was pleasant and got me ice but when we saw our room--it was like a prison cell. The window opened to literally two feet of space between the opposite wall. I called her and told her I couldnt stay there. She said wed chosen the basic room and could upgrade to a superior room. We did. So now its morning, the sun is shining, the bruise on my shin is still impressive but were off to play in Rome.
