Sagar tours city, directs administration to remain vigilant SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 05: The Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today visited various areas of the Srinagar city and took stock of the water logging situation due to incessant rains from the last three days in the Kashmir Valley. He was accompanied by the team of senior officers and engineers of Revenue, PHE, SMC, Housing, PDD and R&B departments. While taking stock of the water logging situation that has arisen due to the incessant rains, Mr. Sagar directed the officers to ensure that the necessary steps are initiated at the earliest to check the water logging in the various low lying areas of the city, so that the people living in these areas do not face any inconvenience. He said that the government has already put in place a mechanism by which the problems being faced by the masses are mitigated and in this regard several control rooms have also been established, which are functional round the clock. During his tour he also visited the areas in the vicinity of the Dal including Bagh-i-Roopsingh, Abi-Nowpora, Alamdar colony, Lone Mohalla and directed the LAWDA officers to ensure that proper connectivity of the people living in the areas in the catchments of the lake is ensured with the main land. While interacting with the people of different localities, the Minister said that the rescue operations are on full swing in the State and the Chief Minister is personally monitoring these and has directed the revenue authorities to prepare a comprehensive report about the extent of the losses suffered after the rescue operations are completed. He said the public representatives including MLAs, Sarpanches and others are touring their respective areas and constituencies to mitigate the problems faced by the people besides personally monitor the rescue operations. The Minister said that the Government has taken all necessary steps for providing all possible assistance to the flood affected people besides putting in place adequate mechanism. He appealed the people to monitor situation themselves and coordinate with the Government to address the problems. Mr. Sagar directed the concerned officers to remain available to the people round the clock and monitor the situation.
