Sagarika Ghoses article raised a lot of hackles yesterday. Her main claims were three - 1. Social media people are now resorting to name-calling all those who disagree with them 2. There is less freedom of speech under the Modi regime 3. Everyone has the right to criticize everything I am not going to spoil a good day by picking her tripe apart word for word. Lets just consider these, instead - 1. Who coined the phrase Internet Hindus? Sagarika. Who abused her ex-colleagues for bad grammar? Sagarika. Who endorsed her husbands paisa hai par class nahin hai? Sagarika. I rest my case. 2. Freedom of speech. Hmm. When Gaurav C Sawant was forced to delete his tweet, that was FOS. When Barkha Dutt litigated the hell out of a lone blogger, forcing him to delete his blog, that was FOS. 66A brought by dear Sibal and PC was FOS. Taslima Nasreen being sent out of India was FOS. I rest my case. 3. Sure. And is Sagarika made of anti-matter that she considers herself above criticism? FOS means exactly that - free speech. If she can rant against Hinduism, people can rant against her. How is that hard to understand? I am not even addressing the huge mess she made out of the right/left divide. Its pretty simple: people who advocate free markets are right wingers. People who advocate government regulation in markets are left wingers. Thats it. To that extent, there are no true right wing people in India - everyone is left wing. Sagarika Ghose thinks she can faff around with hazy ideas and innuendos. #DekhPagli, wo zamaane lad gaye ;)
