Sail for Life gofundme/sailforlife sailforlife@outlook https://facebook/groups/sailforlife Dear Mr Braceland I have been given your contact details from Ailsa Crawford wwv I am trying to set up a charity called sail for life, I am looking for assistance with funding and setting up sail for life. councillor Charles Haffey Vetrans Champion for fife has come on board and is assisting me with setting up the initive via Fife council and is also going to be assisting with the policy making and other details. I would like to apply to the Royal British Liegion for a grant to assist us in acheiving our aim . I am a disabled veteran and I have been funding sail for life by using my Army service atributal pension and war pension would the Royal British liegion be in a position to grant us Funding to the value of £50,000.00 monies to be used set up our first market garden and also to organise a weeks adventure training package for spring 2015. Aim: The aim of sail for life , is to return Veterans to society as productive members of society and to Give them Back their self respect and a sense of well being, Ex service Men and woman Regardless of Branch of service that the individual served in thrive on courses and adversity and can Handle most issue’s that life throws at them. And they are more than able to adjust quickly to the Environment that surrounds them. However they are not indestructible. Due to the very high work load that the modern day professional service man and woman has with long periods of Absence from their families’ friends and loved one’s . This adds to the stress level of an already stressful job. This not only effects the service men and woman but puts undue stress on their families’ and loved ones, due to the added stresses there has been a very High Number of ex service men and woman have resorted to self harming and in some cases they have taken their own lives’. This is not s sign of weakness but it is a sign that they have been too strong for too long Sail for life has 2 Yachts that can be used for work based therapy for restoration and one to be used to do day trips and to teach clients to sail they are as follows : 1. Annie is a Robert Tucker 25 Based at Wormit boat club Tayport Fife ( project boat for restoration) 2. Jennie Jaguar 25 to be based in Scotland and used to teach sailing to small parties or individuals 3. Haven 27 Cabin Cruiser ( project boat for restoration ) To this end sail for life can be beneficial in assisting service personnel by Differing their attention from their physical or mental health issues and allowing them to concentrate on gaining some modicum of a Normal life and Returning to society ready to go forward and grow. This can be achieved by re – training Disabled veterans by setting up work shops, Market Gardens, running courses including life style courses and making available funds by applying to Battle Back and local authority for Grants to set up small cottage based businesses to allow them to work for themselves and the communities they live in. Sail for life should not be used as a method of removing the little benefits that some veterans have been given but should be used to back them up as a means of work related therapy. Market gardens or cottage Gardens: The produce Grown and Items produced could then be used for local based food banks , old folks homes , and the excess sold and funds put back into the individual project in this way it can become self sufficient and give the clients working on site a major sense of Achievement. Other than producing fruit and vegetables the cottage based industry could also diversify into producing garden Furniture, slabs and green houses. Producing High quality merchandise for sale to the public Work shops: These work shops could be used to retrain veterans too NVQ level 2 or above giving them a chance in today’s market to apply for jobs, gain qualifications in a trade that is suitable to their particular Disability , concentrating on IT, telemarketing and call centre based jobs. As well as painters mechanics chef’s electrician’s plumbers and any other trade with good marketable job skills with an NVQ level 2 or above Qualification. Young offenders and veterans in detention: The concept of Sail for life can also be used to assist service men and woman in detention and young offenders, by using the yachts for work based therapy and for day trips. Young offenders will benefit most from this by learning to sail they will achieve a life skill and see that there is another side to life. This can also be achieved in inland water ways with the use of dinghies’ also by teaching them canoeing kayaking rock climbing and other outward bound pursuits. This would increase their confidence and give a sense of achievement whilst learning to work as part of a team to achieve their aim. Funding: Funding for sail for life can be sourced from various locations including MOD and local authority’s this funding already exists in the form of Battle back also NHS funding and from the prison service’s. Public donations and charitable donations. Conclusion: sail for life is a concept that concept is not a new one but it has been revamped from the old style Occupational therapy and gearing individual clients to good quality training instead of a regime of pills and potions, veterans have been trained using a specific regime of training this allows them to assimilate information quickly and ensures through constant testing and self instruction and assessment that they stay at an extremely High level of competence and employability. Conclusion continued: Having a physical or mental health issue is just another Hurdle in life to be attacked using their natural ability and determination to succeed in life and to overcome what ever it throws at them. This can be achieved in the same way that any operation or task was carried out in the services. All they require to achieve this is good quality training and the back up of every community and local authority in the country. Sail for life is looking for assistance from NVQ level 2 Instructors in sailing, canoeing, Kayaking, Hill walking and Rock Climbing also NVQ level 2 and above instructors in trades with marketable skills for employment. Sail for life also requires the use of waste land to use as Market Gardens Timber Polythene sheeting, Un-used council or MOD property for work shops the use of outward bound centres to run courses. Disused schools, hospitals or publicly owned property. (Sail for life is Not a Registered Charity as yet and has been completely funded by myself using My Army War Pension also from small Donations from Family members and close friends) Contact details: Mr A Christie mobile; 07752175240 gofundme/sailforlife sailforlife@outlook https://facebook/groups/sailforlife/
