Sailing away from Bora Bora I am reflecting on these fascinating islands and my impressions. Though the native language is French, usually someone is available to help out with English. I love that there are no Mcdonalds, Walmart, or Costco! The islands are not built up like so much of Hawaii. In fact, there are several defunct and deserted hotels scattered through out the islands. The people are very friendly to outsiders and down to earth. As you will see in my photos, many were happy to pose for me. It feels like a third world country, and although the people here mostly seem quite poor, they appear very happy. Children of all ages roam freely, happy and seemingly safe. They laugh and play in the water....they are outside!
