(Quote a play, La Casa de Bernarda Alba (1936) Barbara was a 3rd century saint and martyr. According to legend she was raised by a tyrannical father who guarded her closely and kept her locked away in a tower. In her seclusion, Barbara learned of Christianity from her tutors and devoted her time to prayer, resisting all her fathers attempts to have her marry. After she told him she was a Christian, he denounced her to authorities who ordered her to be tortured and killed. During her tortures many miracles occured. She was finally beheaded by her own father. Afterwards her father was struck by lightening and killed. St. Barbara is the patron saint of firemen, armorers, artillerymen, military engineers, miners, and others who work with explosives. She is also the patron against storms, lightning, and fire, to name a few
