DESCRIPTION: Sales representatives (or reps), sometimes also called sales executives, may sell anything from industrial machinery to soft toys. Some sales work may involve showing catalogues and brochures to customers and demonstrating products, explaining the benefits of their companys products advising customers on the products that would best meet their needs negotiating prices, and agreeing delivery details and after-sales services. You then may be required to follow up potential sales orders through contact by phone or email. HOURS: Hours vary depending on contracts. PAY: Sales staff usually get a basic salary plus commission, based on the sales they have made. Apprentices may get a different salary through training. Minimum apprenticeship wage starts at £2.68 per hour. TRAINING: Employers normally provide on-the-job training and you may be able to work towards relevant qualifications through assessment in the workplace, e.g. the Level 2 or 3 Certificate/Diploma in sales.
