Salman Khanmight be known for his charitable nature, but only a few know thatShah Rukh Khan has been silently helping the needy without much publicity.While many people think he is selfish, the mighty Khan has been associated with a lotof NGOs and charitable foundations. He was honored with a special award for his charitable work by UNESCO.Shah Rukhcame from a poor family. As a child, he did not have enough money for food and shelter. Ive seen the worst. My father was dying and we couldnt afford theexpensive injections. My aunt used to send them from London. But if the course was of20 injections, we managed only eight. So Ill never know whether he died because we didnt have the money or he died because he had to, he had said in an interview to Filmfare. For him money isn’t the only thing. He had seen the worst in hislife. Thats why he makes sure he gives away Crores from his pocket to charity.It was a big blow for him as well as his sister when their father passed away. He was young when his father died of cancer. It took two years for his sister to recover from the shock. Shah Rukh, in memory of his father, decided to fund a cancer wing for the underprivileged in Mumbai. He’s been donating to many hospitals and has been helping children with medical aid.During natural disasters like Tsunami and Earthquake, he raised money through his concerts. He even donated 2.5 million rupees to the Prime Minister of India for Tsunami Relief camp. As a part of the environmental campaign organized by NDTV, Shah Rukh adopted 12 villages to work for its welfare and raise awareness about the environment.Although he gets busy with his films, Shah Rukh spares time for the kids in orphanage and with the help of his company Red Chillies Entertainment, he helps them monetarily.
