Salute to the fire service for paying attention to the fire - TopicsExpress

Salute to the fire service for paying attention to the fire research programs, especially for the NIST and UL presentations. It is the beginnings (I pray) of change for the service to better manage the risk of structural fire suppression. If you are the training officer or chief for your department, take a moment and answer the following questions as a quick evaluation of a change indication: 1. Has training content been revised to include fire behavior data published in the last 24 months by NIST and UL? 2. Has focus on controlling additional air into the fire tactics been emphasized with tactical items such as "control the door" 3. Is there an "I" in VES (VEIS) for Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search 4. Does the TIC use / training include use as tactical decision making data tool (Go / No Go) 5. Does the training place emphasis on quick stream application. (Air brakes applied, xx seconds to stream applied?) 6. Has the Vertical Vent tactic been reviewed to ensure it does not promote fire growth or stream is applied (coordinated) or does your training teach vertical venting will reduce fire growth in vent limited fires? (myth) 7. Has the department addressed the tactic of "fighting the fire from the unburned side?" (find a better tactic) 8. Has the training addressed the "push the fire" myth? 9. Has the use of an agent with a good surfactant been evaluated to provide more time for the crews operating in a fire compartment? 10. Does your fire fighters know the meaning of "flow path", "over pressure", under pressure", "neutral plane", "vent limited", "fuel limited", "heat release rate", "fire curtain", "smoke curtain", and many more... Be safe.... JS 2013
