Same story as with Obama(31% approval among whites, 70% among non-whites). White voters are mostly economic segregationists who do not like liberal Democrats. This is a very different story from the New Deal generation of segregated socialism, when white voters used to love liberal Democrats: But the responses revealed a sharp racial divide among New Yorkers. While black and Hispanic voters overwhelmingly said they were optimistic about Mr. de Blasio’s upcoming term, only 51 percent of white voters said the same, and 45 percent of whites said they were pessimistic. A plurality of white voters said Mr. de Blasio would make life worse for the city, and for themselves and their families. A plurality of black and Hispanic voters said the new mayor would improve matters. Similarly, 45 percent of white voters said they disapproved of Mr. de Blasio’s job performance, compared with 39 percent who did approve. Sixty percent of blacks and 47 percent of Hispanics said they approved.
