Sample of schoolwork Im dealin with.... Christine Detmer Attachment Thoughts on They Say/I Say & CR 13 COLLAPSE It is suggested by the authors in the introduction of They Say/I Say that the template method of writing outlined therein will guide novice writers to deeper levels of critical thought. Specifically, they state that following procedural writing methods will enhance and advance the ability to connect with readers. As the authors themselves put it, The templates are designed to introduce the student to academic thinking and writing. Although some believe this method stifles creativity, Graff and Birkenstein insist that the ideas expressed in template form are no different than a songwriter following the traditional verse-chorus-verse and therefore belong to the author, thus encouraging creativity. I tend to agree with Graff and Birkenstein. In my view, following a tried and true pattern of writing would be most helpful in allowing my arguments to resonate with the readers. For instance, this very post. In addition, I am very excited to explore the ideas proposed in the introduction. Some might object, on the grounds that it is reminiscent of plagiarism. Yet I would argue that this form of writing most assuredly cannot constitute plagiarism since the words are ones own. Overall, then, I believe following a template will only serve to improve academic reasoning as well as writing. The bullet point in Curious Researcher continues and compliments the idea of following a pattern while maintaining individual thought in composition to increase communication and understanding. The author, Bruce Ballenger , begins his essay Theories of Intelligence with personal commentary, followed rather quickly by facts or studies which back-up his opinion of himself and his own intelligence. Interspersed throughout the essay is observations based on personal experience. Much like the pattern a song follows, the commentary appears to be the verses while the fact based studies more the chorus. I have suspected all along that a research essay need not be merely clinical! I admit I was under this common misconception. I am thrilled to discover my longing for a more informal, though still pleasing to academia, approach to research papers may be realized. A few mistakes I notice. Going back to WORD dox instead of other methods! Swamped this week yall! Late textbooks, delays, and an unusually heavy workload (this week only) Love to all!
