Samsung unveils portable SSD T1, a fast and durable replacement for external HDDs Samsung unveiled their latest Portable SSD T1 external solid state drive at the pre-show press conference earlier today. The stylish storage device designed for speed and security is aimed at professionals who want something secure yet fast and durable enough as an on-the-go storage device. Samsung will offer the new Portable SSD T1 drive in capacities of 250GB, 500GB and 1TB and will be available globally in 15 countries including the United States, Europe and Asian markets later this month. The new Samsung Portable SSD T1 will be powered using Samsungs proprietary 3D vertical NAND (V-NAND) technology with theoretical sequential read/write speeds of up to 450MB/s through a USB 3.0 interface. In addition, Samsung claims the SSD T1 is capable of random read and write speeds of up to 8,000 inputs/outputs per second (IOPS) and 21,000 IOPS respectively - up to 100 times faster than a typical external HDD. The Samsung Portable SSD T1 features an intuitive user interface that allows the user to protect its content through a one user-set password that encrypts files within the drive through an AES 256-bit hardware encryption. Samsung also claims the product is able to withstand knocks and bumps with shock resistant up to 1500G/0.5ms. An in-built Dynamic Thermal Guard further protects the drive and stored data from extreme temperature conditions. The Portable SSD T1 is slim and compact measuring only 71.0 x 9.2 x 53.2 mm (which is smaller than an average business card) and weighing only about 1 ounce (30g). It comes in a black chrome metal coating and laser patterning. The product will come with a three-year limited warranty and will come with a starting price of US$179.99.
