Samuel’s Story: the one most needed had come! Our holy God was providing a new leader for the Nation who was totally different from Eli and his sons, Hophni and Phineas. We do not need to dwell on the nature of the sinfulness of those in critical religious positions, it is sufficient to note how they are introduced in 1 Samuel 2:12, “Now the sons of Eli were corrupt (literally, sons of Belial); they did not know the Lord.” That such men were anywhere near the tabernacle of God was bad enough, but their father, the priest had no control over them and could only look on helplessly as they carried on their corrupt practices. God was about to sweep them away and was replacing them with the child Samuel, “Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord .. But Samuel ministered before the Lord, even as a child, wearing a linen ephod.” [vs 17-18]. Our holy God was providing a holy child to serve Him and His chosen Nation!
