Sandhyavandanam Srinivasa Rao It was probably 1960. I remember to have seen the music maestro when I was hardly 8 years. Sri Sandhyavandanam Srinivasa Rao had come to visit us in Mulbagal to our house, as we were related. He was our guest for two days. I even had an old photograph, taken with him & my Guru & father Sri Tayiloor Srinivasa Rao. I was told he was from Anatapur, son of Sri S. Narayana Rao, who was married to my aunt Smt. Indira Bai, younger sister of Amma. He always sported Angara & Akshate on his forehead and named his sons after Sri Madhvacharya, as I knew later. Srinivasa Rao was born on August 21, 1918 , at Penukonda, Anatapur Dt.,Andhrapradesh. His parents were Sri S.Narayana Rao(Advocate) and Smt.S.Ganga Bai, both belonging to Dasakoota parampara . His ancestors were natives of Srirangapatna, Mysore, Hence he could speak Kannada fluently. Srinivasa Rao completed BA, BL and practiced Law for a brief period, like his father. Later, he turned to a full time musician, a Vocalist of repute. His wife Smt.S.Saraswathi gave him total support to bring out his potential. He has five sons and one daughter. He spoke Telugu, Tamil & Kannada equally well.We went to Prana Devara Gudi ( Hanuman) temple there. He made Alapana ofKamavardhini Ragam for more than 2 hours. Much to my surprise, a Tulasi sapling had grown taller visibly. It is the Magic of Music, which I cannot forget. It was a dream experience for a Boy of my age.I was deeply interested in Music. He sat next to me in lunch and asked to repeat Kasturitilakam... if I knew. I sang the shloka in Ragamalika, in my own way. He said it was good.! Sri Rao asked me if I was interested in Music. I nodded my head. I do not know why I was unable to pursue that Art Divine. In fact except Smt BR Chaya, my aunts grand daughter, none of our family circle are into Music. Of course, his son Sri Madhvamun irao is a Music practitioner, who has brought out Music CDs of his father.
