Sandy Service Day: Groups hope to mobilize 5,000 volunteers to mark storm anniversary As the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy approaches, two New Jersey-based nonprofit groups are joining together to mark the solemn occasion with a large volunteer effort. The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, chaired by First Lady Mary Pat Christie, and Jersey Cares, an organization that coordinates volunteer opportunities, aim to mobilize 5,000 volunteers to work over two days in Atlantic, Bergen, Hudson, Monmouth and Ocean counties.
