Sandy Taco Tuesdays! The Others compare us to one US company. We all know who that would be. I recommend googling that comparators union to see that the Others basically copied and pasted that union structure. We are a completely different corporation with a totally different corporate culture. Do we not deserve a structure that is also unique and aligned with who we are? I do not want a cookie cutter CBA nor do I want cookie cutter representation that is recycled by the Others. A model, might I add, that doesnt seem to be making the super majority of their own membership feel well represented. That should be the goal of a representation: to meet the needs of the majority. I guess it depends on your view and definition of majority. For myself, a representation model that is basically a 50/50 ratification is not ideal nor is it something we should be aspiring towards, do you? Being well represented should be at least 65% of the membership agreeing to the unions proposals. Would you be ok with representation that makes barely half the membership feel heard? We deserve better than that! We deserve to be modelled after greatness, not mediocrity. Do you not think we deserve better mentorship than a union who clearly isnt hitting the mark with the super majority of their own membership? I sure do! This is another reason why our current fabulous representation is better. With our own failed TA, any fabulous rep I have talked with has spoken a similar sentiment: its better to have ours failed than barely passed. Interesting yet powerful words. Our current fabulous representation wants to represent well through having a large majority feeling well represented. A novel idea, isnt it? I think the large majority of us do feel that our current fabulous representation does serve us well. If we didnt, we would be certified by now months into a certification drive. And remember, the Others would force a vote by a small minority (35% of cards signed) or getting a certification squeaked in for a majority of cards signed (56% because they need a buffer just to be sure it squeaks in). Do you not think we deserve to be well represented by large majorities? Or are you ok with just over the pass mark being an acceptable measurement of representation? Choose wisely folks!
