Santino Cassamassa was a 25 year old physically fit and healthy young man who enjoyed all aspects of life. He had a young daughter and a wife who was heavily pregnant with their son. Santino’s life and that of his family’s drastically changed on January 28 2012 when Santino suffered a left thalamic and intraventricular brain haemorrhage which was caused by an AVM (arteriovenous malformation). Santino was left with only movement in his left arm, slight movement in his left leg and he is unable to eat, walk or support himself sitting on his own. It has now been 2 years since his haemorrhage and every day he is working hard to recover. Santino has constantly proved doctors wrong every step of the way and he is now smiling and communicating with thumbs up, pointing and blinking. Santino is making small improvements every day. At the moment Santino is still at a Neuro-rehabilitation centre but is now approaching the time to move home with his wife and two children. The money raised will help to get Santino home and as his needs will still require 24 hour care and the house needs to be fully adapted. Government funding will not cover a quarter of the cost to achieve this. Santino’s progress and determination is at its best when he is surrounded by his wife and children so lets get him home so they can be together again and be a family once more.
