Sarawak Receives RM5 Bln Rural Projects For Past Three Years – Shafie Apdal: BALINGIAN, March 16 – The Federal government, via the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, has allocated about RM5 billion to implement various rural development projects for the past three years in Sarawak. Its minister, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said it was well aware of the fact that Sarawak was the biggest state in Malaysia. As such, he said, it would always continue to allocate more fund for it and not before the general election or by-election period. Shafie said this after his walkabout at Kampung Lintang, here and visiting the homes of several villagers today. “Our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, as we all know now, has a soft spot for Sabah and Sarawak and especially their rural areas and folks. “I have 30 years of experience in the federal cabinet and has served in seven ministries. By comparison then, I know Najib really cares for Sabah and Sarawak,” he said. He said for rural electrification project alone, the prime minister had approved not less than RM1.5 billion for rural electrification projects for Sarawak. “About two years ago, he had also approved RM600 million for the construction of the Kapit-Song Road which will eventually link Kapit to Kanowit and then Sibu and to the rest of the state,” Shafie said. He said Najib was in constant consultation with Sarawak leaders on the state requirements for fund and development projects with great public benefits. Later at a media conference, Shafie said his ministry had spent RM139 million on various basic infrastructure projects in the Mukah parliamentary constituency which included the Balingian and Dalat state seats in the past three years. He said the amount was mainly for basic infrastructural projects including housing for the poor. “The federal government has also separately allocated RM139 million in its effort to end the Pulau Bruit’s (in the Mukah Division) perennial water woes,” he said. dlvr.it/58p5Jd
