Sata Living Up To ‘Action’ Maxim The Patriotic Front (PF) - TopicsExpress

Sata Living Up To ‘Action’ Maxim The Patriotic Front (PF) government has once again demonstrated that it means business when it says it is committed to developing this country through job creation and subsequent job creation. The PF’s style of governance is a complete departure from the usual rhetoric and last-minute, politically motivated projects Zambians were used to under some previous governments. It is only last year that President Sata announced that government would build 650 health posts across the country to improve healthcare service delivery and the overall quality of life for citizens. As expected, the PF’s habitual critics were quick to dismiss the announcement as mere political grand-standing, hot air and even rhetoric meant to sustain the popularity that had swept the party to power in September 2011. But to prove them wrong, government has just sealed a US$55.5 million (K306.6 million) contract with three Indian companies to erect the 650 health posts within a timeframe of two years. This must be the best news the people living in rural areas have heard in many years, if not decades, as they are the major beneficiaries of the prefabricated health facilities that are on cards ready to be rolled out soon. The posts are expected to reduce the distances between the service points and the people, the electorate. We carried a detailed report on this massive social investment on the front page of yesterday’s edition in which we named Jaguar Overseas Limited, Angelique International Limited and Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited as the contractors that will build the health posts. Ministry of Health permanent secretary Peter Mwaba and representatives of the three contractors inked their signatures to the deal at the ministry’s headquarters in Lusaka on Wednesday. The project is expected to be completed in 24 months, an ambitious timeframe considering the scope of work involved, but one clear thing is that jobs shall be immediately created. It is quite clear that Zambians now have a government which is in a hurry to restore their collective dignity through the provision of quality healthcare services within their communities, compared to a situation where mothers and children died needlessly due to lack of basic health facilities almost 50 years after independence. #PF At Work
