Saturday 29th June – Liverpool daily transfer rumours and news round up Pepe Reina’s Liverpool future became more uncertain after new signing Simon Mignolet signaled his intention to rival the Spaniard for the club’s No.1 position, the Daily Mail reports. Mignolet arrived from Sunderland in a £9million deal and is looking to challenge Reina for a first-team spot. The Spaniard is a target for Barcelona and is expected to leave sooner rather than later to preserve his national team place. Mignolet said, “I had a very positive meeting with Brendan Rodgers before signing for Liverpool. I can’t say what we discussed, and whether there were any assurances about starting games. That’s between us, but it’s fair to say the purpose of this move is not so I can look on from the sidelines.” Jose Callejon has had to struggle to break into the first-team at Real Madrid and the 26-year old is reportedly looking for a way out of the Bernabeu. The Metro understands that Liverpool are ready to provide the Spaniard with an escape route but could face competition from Fiorentina and Napoli. Brendan Rodgers is preparing for the inevitable departure of Luis Suarez and has already signed Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas as attacking options. The Liverpool manager is eyeing a move for Callejon to add more firepower upfront. Jackson Martinez is reportedly in talks with Porto over a new contract which could end the hopes of Liverpool and Tottenham of signing the 26-year old forward, according to the Express. The Premier League duo had expressed interest in signing Martinez but the player’s agent confirmed that his client is in talks with Porto. Martinez’s agent said, “We want to renew his contract but keep more or less the same conditions. I don’t know for how many more years, we will only know after we all talk.” Andre Villas-Boas is looking to sell unwanted players at White Hart Lane to clear space for new arrivals and the Sun understands that Tom Huddlestone could be the first player out of the club with Sunderland targeting the midfielder in a £5million transfer. Emmanuel Adebayor, Scott Parker and Benoit Assou-Ekotto are also expected to exit with Tottenham close to completing a £17million deal for Paulinho. Spurs are also chasing Barcelona’s David Villa while Hull and Fulham are prepared to challenge Sunderland for Huddlestone. Tottenham plan to enter the race for Shakhtar Donetsk’s much-wanted midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan once they complete the £17million signing of Paulinho and the club’s officials have held talks with the player’s representatives over a possible move to White Hart Lane, the Daily Mail reports. Dortmund have reportedly tabled a £19.5million bid for the Armenian but Shakhtar want atleast £25million. Chelsea and Manchester City have also been linked with the 24-year old but Liverpool look the favourites to land the player who has been put up for sale by his club. - J L
