Saturday (3/8) wine notes: Onto Sherrys... admittedly only have cooked with these before (awesome for pan de-glazing!). So, here we are tasting them seriously. Tonights is a Fino Jarana Sherry and boy, its an experience. You pour it into the glass and you can smell its pungent aroma a mile away. Its light in color like a white wine and smells of a bowl of buttered salted pecans and Brazilian nuts (no, really!). Bone dry on the palate with those roasted nuts. Most people drink this as an aperitif (before meals) to jump start their palate for the meal. Ive NEVER understood that and honestly, wouldnt grab this to do that for. Its a weird taste and one that this Chefy brain cant get past thinking that its only good for cooking. But, I would think it would be great paired with olive tapenade and pita chips (fellow chef recommended). This wine isnt for me but again - awesome as a pantry ingredient. What are your impressions of Sherry? I feel like Im missing something. $15 klwines/detail.asp?sku=250013
