Saturday, Mom took me to the library and i read a couple books about William Clark Quantrill (1837-1865), he was born in Ohio and moved to MO, then to KS and helped make wagons with his brother. They made a wagon delivery in the South and was overtaken by 32 KS Jayhawkers that shot the brothers & killed his brother and Quantrill was seriously injuried. He recovered and went to Lawrence, KS and joined the KS State Militia, he became an expert marksman and eventually killed all but 2 of the Jayhawks that killed his brother. He became a guerrilla and a bushwacker. He participated in the burning (raid) of Lawrence, KS on 23 August 1863. He eventually was going to Washington DC but was shot and slowly died (several weeks time) in KY. He was buried in 3 places, one place in Higginsville, MO the neighboring town. I am reading some other books about bushwackers and jayhawks. There was much tension around this part of the country during the Civil War.
