Saturday, November 23, 2013 #Comic theatrical competition As expected, soon after the November 21, 2013 drone attack on a Hangu seminary in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a comical, theatrical competition started between Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan. Both are trying to outdo each other in condemning the drone attacks but none of them is ready to answer one fundamental question: what were the commanders of the Haqqani network doing in the seminary at the time of the attack? The Haqqani network is part of the Afghan Taliban but operates from Pakistani soil. Hangu is not part of the lawless tribal area but is part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province under Imran Khan. No sane person is ready to buy this argument that the US should not eliminate Taliban commanders only because they are operating from Pakistan. We must stop fooling ourselves by acting like an ostrich. Pakistan needs to get to the bottom of this chaos. Militants are still not ready to accept the fact that empires based on religions are things of the past; modern nations are based on ethnicity, linguistic and geographical characteristics. Separation of Bangladesh from Pakistan is an undeniable proof. The militants have full backing from religious leaders. It is time for deep and sincere introspection; drone attacks will not stop until we realise who are the real enemies of the state of Pakistan. This is not going to happen because it will not garner cheap popularity and votes.
